Las Hienas

Las Hienas was formed in early 2023 as a countermovement to the male-dominated music scene, challenging discrimination against women and LGBTQIA+ people. They made their debut on International Women's Day 2023, performing a powerful concert featuring only songs written by women.

What began as an activist project has grown into a unique and groundbreaking Latin band made up of eight women, featuring a virtuosic horn and viola section, soulful vocals, and a groovy rhythm section.

Their repertoire spans a wide range of styles, including Afro-Cuban music, modern salsa, music from the Andes, traditional Caribbean rhythms, and influences from pop and jazz.

In their original compositions, Las Hienas love to experiment by blending different genres, pushing boundaries, and creating fresh sounds within the Latin music scene.

Las Hienas’ performances are electrifying—full of energy, passion, and a strong sense of community. In their shows they encourage the audience to express themselves freely.

Staying true to their political roots, the band not only performs but also organizes educational workshops in collaboration with other organizations based in the Netherlands, such as Feministas Rotterdam and Latin Alternative Radio.

At our events, no form of discrimination is tolerated.
Las Hienas stand for a diverse and democratic world—one where everyone is free to express themselves, regardless of gender, skin color, religion, or beliefs. Click here for more info about our social impact.
